Today, we’re told that training is a necessary element in order to be successful. We need to train new employees, train existing employees, and continue to train, train, train. The problem is, most people don’t know WHEN to use training to get the maximum return and as we’ve discussed before, don’t know HOW to train correctly. We can help you with this conundrum! Through our 30 years of experience providing a variety of training services to our clients, we’ve created a list of three scenarios in which training should be utilized to benefit your business:

To refresh and renew existing employee’s knowledge

Employee’s, CEOs, managers, and stakeholders are busy. There are daily tasks to be completed, co-workers that need help, and goals that must be met. With so much going on, the ability to remember and actively use company policies, procedures, and information taught during onboarding may go by the wayside. It is highly effective and beneficial for companies to utilize training on an ongoing basis to refresh and renew the knowledge of all employees. This is also a chance to update staff on new and exciting things happening and explain why policies and procedures are in place.

When you need to increase buy-in from stakeholders

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1565812598592{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]

Most of us, at some point or other, find ourselves needing to obtain and increase buy-in from both external and internal stakeholders. Maybe there has been a company change, a new legislation passed, a new standard you must meet. Or maybe there is a data quality issue, a performance issue, etc. Utilizing training to obtain/increase stakeholder buy-in is one of the most effective tools available. When done right, it helps to show the value each stakeholder brings, the value they get out of doing something the new/correct way, and betters communication and understanding at all levels.

When you have a new technology, process or procedure implemented

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1565812637834{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]

This is likely the most obvious scenario when companies think to use training, and it should be. Whenever there is something “new” introduced, or a change taking place, it is imperative that you provide training around it’s context. This helps employees feel capable of continuing their work, abates any fears people have and ensures the new feature or structure is actually adopted and used.

The three examples listed above are just a few of the many scenarios in which utilizing training benefits you and your company. Training is one of the most underutilized tools. Because we have seen it work time and time again, our advice is to adjust your thinking and approach to training. Look at successful ways to engage participants and identify what goals or items you can focus a training around. The results will be worth it.
