When it comes to selling, leave the old school thinking behind. Instead, tell stories. Stories of challenges your clients have faced, and how you created a happy ending (i.e. met their goals). Telling stories comes across as more authentic, and your clients, future clients, and employees will thank you for that. People relate to strongly feelings, so paint the picture of their biggest pain point, and you will have their attention. That is, after all, a sales dream come true.

As we’ve discussed in a few blogs, people like to know and feel their work is making a bigger impact. That what they do makes a difference in the world and increases the value of people. Similarly, clients feel good investing in a company that also does good. This is why you often see RFPs now requiring companies to work with a small diverse and disadvantaged businesses. The good news is that you already have a large and positive impact, or you wouldn’t still be in business. Your job is to show this to clients and to employees and to help make sure people do more than just “work” when they are a part of your company.
