Stressful situations will arise in the workplace – it is not an “if” but a “when” situation. Do what you can to take workplace stress head on by coming prepared, organizing your space, and taking a step back when needed. Below, we’ve included 3 ways to reduce stress in the workplace.

Come Prepared

In 2022, many individuals find themselves navigating new environments. The American Institute of Stress reports that “The severity of job stress depends on the magnitude of the demands that are being made and the individual’s sense of control or decision-making latitude he or she has in dealing with them”. Taking control of what you can makes uncontrollable situations easier to handle. This can look like: practicing a presentation before a meeting or putting together a cute outfit that will boost your confidence. It can also be doing independent research to gain inspiration and knowledge.

Organize Your Space

When your space is put together, you feel put together. Organizing your workspace leaves room for you to tackle even the toughest situations. This can look like: putting paperwork in a filing cabinet, cleaning up your computer desktop, or personalizing your desk in a way that works for you.

Take a Step Back

When all is said and done, stress at work is completely normal. It’s okay to take a step back if you find yourself in a situation that leaves you feeling completely overwhelmed. This can look like: helping out a coworker, taking a walk to get some fresh air, or even something as simple as drinking water.

Avoiding stressful situations completely is not possible, but being ready when they happen is! Reducing your stress takes practice. Don’t be hard on yourself if it doesn’t happen overnight. By doing what you can to reduce your stress in the workplace, you allow yourself the space to come back strong, confident, and with the ability to produce something amazing.
