It seems that so much focus today is put on companies finding and retaining the right employees that we’re forgetting it is also important that YOU, a future employee, starts the process by finding a job that is right for you. Job seekers want to find a job/company that they can see themselves growing in and fits with their goals. The problem? A lot of job seekers don’t have the tools and were never taught what to look for to make this happen. Have no fear, we’re here to help bridge this gap. Read below for 3 tips that will help you find the right job, so you meet your life goals:

Know their culture

One of the most important things you can do before accepting a job is figuring out and knowing the company’s culture. This goes beyond what the company tells you; it is about investigating if their culture aligns with what is important to you. S. Chris Edmonds, from theladders.com, wrote a recent blog post outlining ways to discern a company’s culture from the outside. Among the tips are making sure you know your value system, in order to find a company that aligns to your beliefs and concepts. You, and your potential new job, will be much better aligned if you take a little more time upfront to make sure you fit with a company’s culture.

Have goals

Before starting a new job, it is imperative that you know your own personal goals. For instance, if your goal is to continue your education while working, finding a job that provides education incentives will be much more aligned with you. It also shows forethought when you come to an interview with your own goals and questions outlined, to see how the company can meet them. From big to small, your goals will take you where you want to go and the right job will help. This is why we’ve talked so frequently about the importance of goals in our own blogs, they truly are the roadmap that will shape your career and life. Set your goals!

Put in the work
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1582666919326{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]
This goes hand in hand with the point above. While a job/company should help you grow and meet goals; it is your job to put in the work. Finding a job that will push you, and hold you accountable for getting work done, will bring you more fulfillment and happiness. To the same degree, if you feel you’ll never be able to meet the requirements or handle the workload of a certain job, that might not be the best thing for you. Set yourself up for success, while pushing outside of your comfort zone.

We would all like to find the job that aligns perfectly with our goals, in life and career, and stay there for many years. To make this happen, we must play a more active role. It is no longer just about companies finding the right employees – we have to start finding the right companies ourselves.
